Denise Bauer

DENISE BAUER, PHD is dean of liberal arts and food studies at The Culinary Institute of America, where she is responsible for the curriculum, instruction, and program development of the college’s liberal arts and food studies courses and the Global Cuisines and Cultures study abroad program. Before being promoted to her current position in 2016, Denise was associate dean of liberal arts at the CIA, where she expanded the general education curriculum and led the launch of the Applied Food Studies major in 2015. The Applied Food Studies program focuses on the interconnected issues of food cultures and history, local and global food systems, food policy, and food ecology.She joined the CIA administration in 2005 after serving as coordinator of the Women’s Studies Program and a faculty member at the State University of New York at New Paltz. Denise earned both her PhD in arts and humanities education and master of arts in interdisciplinary studies from New York University in New York City, and her bachelor of arts in art history and French from Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA.
