Alex Askew ‘89

Alex Askew is a veteran food systems leader and culinary professional with over 35 years of experience dedicated to social impact. A 1989 graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, he co-founded the first campus group for students of color before launching a career in R&D and consulting for global brands like General Mills and Hilton Hotels.
In 1993, Alex co-founded BCAGlobal, an organization dedicated to equity and advocacy for minority professionals in the hospitality industry. He is the creator of the "Mindful Eating for the Beloved Community" program, which addresses the intersection of food, race, and social justice. A recognized expert in Culinary Medicine, Alex has served as a National Kellogg Fellow and a Castanea Fellow. His work focuses on "Global Culinary Environmentalism," using food as a nexus for community resiliency and health equity. He currently serves as a Culinary Medicine Advisor at the Harvard Radcliffe Institute. (North Babylon, NY)
