Ken Paul
Principle and Owner, Pokiok Associates
Ken Paul is a member of the Wolastoqey Nation at Neqotkuk (Tobique First Nation), located in New Brunswick, Canada.
He is the Principle/Owner of Pokiok Associates and serves as a board member for Marine Renewables Canada, the Foundation for Conservation of Atlantic Salmon, Carbon Removal Canada, and a former board member of the Ocean Supercluster and the Fundy Ocean Research Centre for Energy (FORCE) on tidal energy.
Ken has advocated for First Nations and Indigenous Peoples regionally, nationally and internationally on all aspects relating to fisheries, aquaculture, ocean protection, economic prosperity and governance as they relate to inherent aboriginal and treaty-protected rights, legislation, and policy. He has held recent roles as Lead Fisheries Negotiator for the Wolastoqey Nation of New Brunswick, National Fisheries Director for the Assembly of First Nations, and strategic advisor for Miawpukek Horizon for Indigenous-led Ocean Science Expeditions on the Atlantic coast on board the Oqwatnukewey Eleke'wi'ji'jit (Polar Prince).
He is a past keynote speaker at the 2024 Ocean Decade Conference in Barcelona and is an active member to the Canada Council of UNESCO Ocean working group.
Ken has an MBA with St Mary’s University and a BSc from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and is an adjunct professor at Dalhousie’s Marine Affairs program. (Tobique First Nation, Canada)
