Marion Nestle is Paulette Goddard Professor of Nutrition, Food Studies, and Public Health, Emerita, at New York University, in the department she chaired from 1988-2003 and from which she retired in September 2017. She earned a Ph.D. in molecular biology and an M.P.H. in public health nutrition from the University of California, Berkeley. Her research and writing examine scientific, societal, and business influences on food choices and their health consequences, emphasizing the role of food industry marketing. She is the author, co-author, or co-editor of sixteen books about food politics, most recently What to Eat Now: The Indispensable Guide to Good Food, How to Find It, and Why It Matters. She has received many awards and honors, including from the James Beard Foundation (books, leadership, and Who’s Who), International Association of Culinary Professionals (books), and Les Dames d'Escoffier International (Grande Dame), among others.
